Abstract

Efforts to increase muscle strength in athletes are generally carried out in the form of resistance training. Physiotherapy has an important role to maintain the various scope of one's own movements and bodily functions in increasing muscle strength using modalities possessed by physiotherapists such as strengthening and the Electrical Stimulation application. Strengthening is a muscle strengthening exercise exercise given to athletes to increase the endurance of the upper arm muscles. The application of Electrical Stimulation in the form of TENS is one of the many modality tools used by Physiotherapists in Indonesia to increase muscle strength. This reseach to find out how much influence the addition of electrical stimulation to the increase in deltoid muscle strength in rock climbing athletes. The type of research in this study was a quesi experiment with the design of two groups pretest and post test. This research was carried out at the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation of Surakarta City athletes in December 2018 at the FPTI Secretariat Surakarata Manahan. The sample in this study amounted to 8 respondents who were divided into 2 groups. The sampling technique in this study used a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis method in this study uses descriptive analysis using graphical visual analysis. From the results of the study, it was found that the duration of the activity of respondents following rock climbing for 2-3 years and> 4 years of draw which is 50%, from the results of the study found that the value of upper arm muscle strength as measured by the number of respondent pull up is 10 -20 times. From the results of the research, the group given the addition of interference currents after being treated was 21%, whereas the average change in the TENS group after being treated was 20%. So it can be concluded that there is no significant difference in the increase in upper arm muscle strength between those using interference currents and those using TENS. Stimulation (ES) with interference currents only gives a sense of comfort, does not provide an increase but there is a decrease in the strength of the arm muscles of the rock climbing athlete by 21%. Giving electrical stimulation (ES) modalities with TENS current only gives a sense of comfort, does not provide an increase but there is a decrease in arm muscle strength over rock climbing by 20%. Decrease in muscle strength occurs in the group of interference currents, there is a difference in the effectiveness of the effect of giving electrical stimulation during strengthening exercise there is an increase in the strength of the arm muscles of rock climbing athletes.
