Abstract

Distribution of electric power is an important component of an electric power system that functions as a medium for supplying electrical energy from the plant to the customer. When operating, the distribution system often experiences interference, especially short circuit interruption, so protection is needed. Protection has functions to protect expensive system equipment such as power transformers. One of the protection of the distribution system is Circuit Breaker (CB). Circuit Breaker are mechanical switching equipment, capable of closing, flowing and disconnecting load currents under normal conditions according to their rating and being able to close, drain and disconnect the load current when abnormal conditions are in accordance with the rating.. The purpose of this study was to find out the capacity of CB (circuit breaker) used on Jajar Substation with a method of calculating 3 phase short circuit current because the current value is the highest current value. There are 2 parts of the 3 phase short circuit that are calculated, namely the short circuit current on the 20 kV busbar, and on feeder. After that it will be simulated using ETAP 12.6 as a comparisons in the calculation of short circuit currents. After calculation, the value current of the busbar 20 kV is 12.412 kA and the feeder is 9.216 kA, then in ETAP 12.6 the results of the busbar 20 kV are 12.445 kA and the feeder is 9.229 kA. So that there is a difference between mathematical calculations and ETAP 12.6, the difference on 20 kV busbar is 0.033 kA and at feeders is 0.013 kA. Based on the calculation of the 3 phase short circuit breaker current, the CB capacity of the 20 kV busbar is 20 kA, and the CB capacity of the feeder is 17 kA.
