Abstract
ABSTRACT GIVING EFFECT OF FRUIT EXTRACT Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) ON MALE Histopathology of liver Mice (Mus musculusL.) THAT ADVISED OF EXPOSURE TO SMOKE Faculty of Medicine, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta By Adam Arya Pratama, Retno Sintowati Background: Antioxidants play an active role in neutralizing free radicals. Red pomegranate fruit has polyphenols (flavonoids, hydrolysable tannins, condensed tannins) high which acts as an antioxidant. Objective: Determine the effect of pomegranate extract on hepatic histopathology of male mice by exposure to cigarette smoke. Methodology: Subject study using 30 male mice Swiss strain were divided randomly into 5 groups. The division of the group consisting of: normal control (given Aquadest), negative controls (given 1 cigarettes and Aquadest every day), treatment 1 (given one cigarette + @ 350mg / KgBW pomegranate extract), treatment 2 (given 1 cigarette + @ 700mg / KgBW pomegranate extract), treatment 3 (given 1 cigarette + @ 1400 mg / KgBW pomegranate extract). Treatment lasted for 35 days, on day 36 mice were terminated, then performed liver histology. Results: Macroscopic examination results showed that the average size of the organs of the normal group (2,436 cm3), negative group (4.81 cm3), the group P1 (3.9032 cm3), a group P2 (3,544 cm3), group P3 (7.7468 cm3). And the results of the microscopic examination method CRN scoring system activity showed histological features of lobular inflammation P2 group experienced an average amount of at least compared to the other groups. Histology ballooning P1 compared P2 groups showed no significant differences. The optimal dose showed in P2 group (700 mg/kgbb). Conclusion:Pomegranate extract has effects inhibiting damage on hepatic histology of male mice after exposure to cigarette smoke.
