Abstract
THE DIFFERENCE OF TOTAL CHOLESTEROL IN ADULT OBESITY AND NO OBESITY Fitri, Safari Wahyu Jatmiko Faculty of Medicine, Muhammadiyah University Surakarta ABSTRACT Background: Being overweight is a major factor for a number of chronic diseases. Obesity in young adults is associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and metabolic disorders. The prevalence of obesity in Indonesia in 2013 was 19.7% in men and 32.9% in women. Permanent obesity and excessive food intake can cause a disruption of the metabolic system in the form of hypercholesterolemia. Obesity can cause interference with the regulation of fatty acids which will increase the levels of triglycerides and ester cholesterol. Objective: To determine differences in total cholesterol in obese and non-obese adults. Method: This study was an observational analytic study with a cross sectional approach conducted at Sibela Health Center in Jebres District, Surakarta City. The sample size used was 122 samples, consisting of obesity 61 samples and non obesity 61 samples with consecutive sampling technique. Data obtained from primary data. Results: This study was conducted at the Sibela Community Health Center, Jebres District, Surakarta City in March 2019. Respondents who came to the Puskesmas with an age range of 25-65 years. The results of the analysis using unpaired t test obtained differences in the average total cholesterol in obesity and non-obese at 56,115, with a value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05). Conclusion: There are differences in the average value of total cholesterol in obese and non obese adults of 56,115. Keywords: Obesity, Hypercholesterolemia, Total cholesterol
