Abstract
The purpose of this study is, to improve students communication in learning mathematics through the Metacognitive approach carried out on class VIII A Muhammadiyah 4 Middle School in Surakarta. This research is a classroom action research conducted collaboratively between researchers and mathematics teachers of class VIII A Junior Hight School Muhammadiyah 4 of Surakarta totaling 26 students consisting of 11 male students and 15 female students, while the action actors were researchers. Data collection techniques carried out in this study were, field notes, test methods, and documentation. The data analysis technique carried out in this study was data reduction, data processing, data presentation, and data verification. The validity of the data uses triangulation techniques. From the results of the study obtained data there is an increase in student communication, it can be seen from the achievement of communication indicators as follows: 1) Presenting solutions to a problem 34.6% or 9 students increased to 73.1% or 19 students, 2) Ability to use tables, images, models, etc to convey explanations 42.3% or 11 students increased to 61.5% or 16 students, 3) The ability to explain the conclusions obtained increased to 30.7% or 8 students increased to 57.7% or 15 students.
