Abstract

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease in the joints caused by several factors. This disease affects many elderly people and has the character of damage to the cartilage. To overcome the problem of pain in osteoarthritis, one of the modalities of physiotherapy that can be used is kinesio taping, which is useful for reducing the degree of pain, increasing the scope of motion of joints, normalization of length and stress in the muscle for maximum energy, help heal muscle tissue, reduce fatigue in muscles, increase contraction in muscles that experience weakness, stimulation of relaxation in the muscles that contract excessively. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the effect of reducing pain in elderly people with knee osteorthritis who were treated with kinesio taping and treated with sham taping at Wonogiri District Dharma Bakti Nursing Home. This type of research is quantitative research with a quasi experimental approach with a pretest and posttest with control group design research design. The sample in this study amounted to 16 respondents obtained using inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data analysis technique used in this study is the data normality test, homogeneity test, Paired t-test sample test, followed by the Independent test sample t-test. The results of the study obtained an average value of the control group pre test 19.37 and the post test average value 19.12. The average value of the pretest of the control group was 19.00 and the post-test value of the treatment group was 15.37. From the results of the normality test data obtained the value of the p-value of the control group and treatment group> 0.05, so that the data are normally distributed. The results of the homogeneity test with the levene test showed that the value of the control group and the treatment group p-value> 0.05, so it can be concluded that the data is homogeneous. From the results of the paired t-test for the control group of 0,000 <0.05 so that there was an effect of decreasing pain in the elderly with knee osteorthritis treated with kinesio taping. From the results of the paired t-test for the treatment group of 0.351> 0.05 so that there was no effect of decreasing pain in the elderly with knee osteorthritis treated with sham taping. Dari hail uji independent sample t-test didapatkan hasil nilai p-value sebesar 0.000, sehingga ada perbedaan penurunan nyeri antara yang diberi perlakuan kinesio taping dengan yang diberi perlakuan sham taping. From the results of the study concluded that there was an effect of decreasing pain in elderly people with knee osteorthritis treated with kinesio taping, there was no effect of reducing pain in elderly patients with knee osteorthritis treated with sham taping, there was a difference in pain reduction between those treated with kinesio taping and those treated sham taping.
