Abstract

Breast cancer is the cancer that causes the most deaths in developed or developing countries like Indonesia. Basil and papaya leaves are said to be potential as an alternative treatment for breast cancer. Previous research mentioned basil can inhibit the growth of cancer cells as large as and papaya leaves as much as. This study aims to determine the cytotoxic effects of a combination of ethanol extract of basil and papaya leaves. Extraction of basil and papaya leaves was carried out using 96% ethanol. Cytotoxic tests used the MTT assay method with a single extract and a combination of comparisons (1: 1) and made 5 series concentrations of 500; 250; 125; 67.5; 37.25 µg / mL. The absorbance of the test results is read using the ELISA reader Ʌ595nm. Cytotoxic test results showed that basil and combination ethanol extracts had cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 cells with IC50 of 160,286; 187,426 µg / mL, while the papaya ethanol extract with IC50>1000 µg / mL was said to have no cytotoxic activity.
