Abstract

Literacy culture can be interpreted as an ability to read and write. In simple terms, we know it by literacy. Someone who is said to be literate is those who read and are able to understand information about what is happening in their environment and their understanding of reading. This study aims to find out how interpersonal communication activists in Solo Street Library Community develop literacy culture in Surakarta. The researcher used an interpersonal communication theory approach to literacy culture. The method used uses descriptive qualitative approach with data collection methods using in-depth interviews and observations. The results of this study indicate that interpersonal communication carried out by Solo Street Library Community Activists can be said to have succeeded in creating a literary culture. The positive response of the community with the form of empathy from visitors who merged into the cooperative activities in the form of dissecting books, and conveying writing through bulletins became a form of implementation of the literacy culture itself
