Abstract

This study aims to understand, describe, and analyze the ideal role of the father in adolescent self-identity in a cultural perspective. Informants in this study were fathers and children aged 13-18 years. This study uses phenomenological qualitative research design with data collection methods using interviews and descriptive analysis and psychological tests, namely graphical tests. The results of the study found that the formation of a child's identity is influenced by the role or care of the father. The lack of communication between fathers and adolescents, especially in ethnic Chinese and Javanese families in this study, influences the identity of children in each ethnic group. Parenting in Arab families focuses more on increasing independence, responsibility and planting religious values. Parenting in a Chinese family focuses on children's responsibility for their achievements and abilities. Style of parenting based on sex applied by father to Chinese family Parenting in Javanese
