Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the tensile strength and metallographic structure of aluminum and brass joints with brazing using alusol filler. The standard specimen size measurements used was ASME IX and raw material tensile was tested using the ASTM E8, while macro and micro photographs were tested using ASTM E407-07. SEM and EDX tests are used to determine the microstructure and chemical composition of the material. The results showed that the brazing joint between aluminum and brass had an average maximum shear stress 12.601 N/mm2, the maximum strain was 0.011, the maximum modulus of elasticity was 1.183 kN/mm2. The results of micro photograph analysis, especially in the braze metal area facing the brass side showing porous micro structure. The EDX results show that the chemical composition contained in the specimens are; C (carbon) 21.53%, Al2O3 (Alumina) 37.20%, CuO (Copper (II) Oxide) 13.63%, and ZnO (Zinc Oxide) 27 , 64%. The results of this study were lower than previous studies where the shear strength of Cu/Zn4Al brazing joints is 34.5 MPa and the shear strength of Cu/Zn6Al6Ag is 39 MPa.
