Abstract
The current era of sophisticated information technology provides open access to media and social media for all levels of society, including students. But on the other hand, many parties use IT sophistication for certain purposes only, for example the interests of power politics, especially through the dissemination of news hoax freely, which psychosocially can result in the collection of critical thinking and reluctance to verify the truth of the news. Hoax comes from hoax English words which, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary (2017), mean "something wrong or false that is made as if it were true, an action and fabrication of something intended to deceive and deceive". Hoax is attached to gadgets and social media where students as active users of the internet make it a daily consumption of information, The author is interested in examining the responses of activist students and non-activists majoring in psychology to hoax on social media, assuming that activists are more responsive in responding to hot issues through critical thinking and applying their knowledge that is characteristic of psychology compared to non-activist students in general in Solo Raya, The results of the study state that activists do not directly believe and some give opinions about government in the media. Whereas non-activists tend to express emotions and take actions to avoid deviant information appearing. The activist attitude that is carried out is clarification, discussion, silence, impartiality, reporting to the service center and giving suggestions with a combination of these attitudes between clarification with discussion and silence. Whereas non-activists give advice, clarify or find out the truth and block distorted posts and some disseminate. The reason activists take an attitude towards deviating political information on social media is because of the threat of criminal acts, avoiding negative responses or not knowing the truth, while non-activists avoid conflicts that arise on social media, fear wrong when commenting and disseminating, seeking correct information, not interest in political information and provide correct information.
