Abstract
Flowable composite resin is one kind of tooth restoration that has a good aesthetic value and has the same color with teeth. Flowable composite resin is composite resin that have smaller mechanical properties. Various effort undertaken to improve the diametral tensile strength of flowable composite resin, one of them by mixing hidroxy apatite from eggshell powder into flowable composite resin. Hidroxy apatite is biocompatible and non-toxic. Hidroxy apatite can be synthesized by using the method of precipitation. This study’s purpose was to know the effect ofadding hidroxy apatitefrom eggshell powderto the material diametral tensile strength of flowable composite resin.The method of this study using posttest-only control group design. This study used 32 samples with 6 mm of diameter and 3 mm height and divided into 2 groups: first group were flowable composite resin without hidroxy apatite as a control group with 16 samples and the second group were flowable composite resin with the addition of hidroxy apatite as test group totaling 16 samples. The diametral tensile strength calculated using a universal testing machine (UTM) with speed of 0.5 mm/min. The result in this study showed that the average of flowable composite resin with hidroxy apatite addition group was 50,77 and flowable composite resin without hidroxy apatite addition group was 31,20. The average differences of two groups was analyzed using independent t-test. The result of statistic test showed that there was a significant differences between the two groups with significance value p = 0,000 (p <0,05). The conclusion of this study showed there was the effect of adding hidroxy apatite from eggshell powder to improve the diametral tensile strength of flowable composite resin.
