Abstract

This research paper is aimed at analyzing the syntactic form and meaning of the common food product sold everywhere. The researcher analyzes the advertisement of food products because the researcher observes products often use English language in their slogan. A slogan of food products is needed to persuade consumers to buy the product, when they read it on the package. The problem statements raised in this research are: 1) what are the syntactic forms of English slogan of food products? and 2) What are the meanings of English slogan of food products? In this research, the writer conducted descriptive qualitative method. It means that it is a type of research in which does not include any calculation or enumeration. The object of this research is food product slogan. The sources of the data are food product sold in Carefour Pabelan and Hypermart. The technique of data analysis used are classifying the data according to their syntactic form and meaning. The results of the research paper are: 1) There are only two forms of syntactic form in English food products which are: phrase and sentence. Most food product slogan are in the form of noun phrase (26 or 70,2%). It is because the focus of the slogan itself is the product or the noun in the whole phrase. 2) There are only two kinds of meaning in the food product which are connotative and conceptual. Most food products apply the connotative meaning (26 data or 70,2%). It is because that the advertiser would also be easier to put catchy words and phrases to attract the consumers
