Abstract

The parenting perception that received by boarding students provides an important role for the autonomy of boarding students and university environments. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between parenting perception with autonomy in boarding students. The hypothesis is proposed that there is a significant relationship between parenting perception and boarding students autonomy. The population in this study were students with ages17-23 years who lived in boarding houses in the villages of Gonilan, Gatak, Mendungan, Menco and Pabelan Kartasura, amounting about to 100 people. Purposive random sampling is the sampling technique that was taken. The method used is quantitative with measuring instruments in the form of Parenting Perception Scale and Autonomy Scale. Data analysis was carried out by correlation of product moment from Pearson by using the SPSS version 16 for Windows Operating System. Based on the results of data analysis, the rxy correlation coefficient was obtained for 0.571 with sig. = 0,000 (p <0.05) that means there is a very significant positive relationship between parenting perception and boarding student autonomy. The contribution of effectiveness (SE) is 32.6% and this is means that there are still 67.4% of other factors that influence of autonomy other than parenting perception. The variable of parenting perception has a high empirical rate (RE) and the autonomy variable has a high empirical average (RE).
