Abstract
The number of Indonesian smokers in 2018 who are over 15 years old is 33.8%. This number is 62.9% of which are male smokers. The content of cigarettes in the form of sympathomimetic nicotine causes vasoconstriction of blood vessels, causing an increase in heart rate which then results in increased cardiac output. The prevalence of excess body weight with a body mass index between 25 and 27 increased from 11.5% in 2013 to 13.6% in 2018. People with excess weight have the potential to develop high blood pressure, because the arteries or veins are likely to be fulfilled "Fat rust" that causes blood pressure to increase. To find out the relationship between smoking habits and body mass index with blood pressure members of Korem 074 Warastratama Surakarta. This study used a cross-sectional study design and was carried out in the 074 Military in Surakarta. The research subjects were 75 respondents taken by consecutive sampling technique. Collecting data on smoking habits using the 2013 questionnaire risk, body mass index data using the scales and microtoise stature meter, blood pressure data using a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The results of the chi square test showed that there was no significant relationship between smoking habits and blood pressure (p= 0.602). The relationship between body mass index and blood pressure showed significant results (p= 0.001). Cigarette smoking habits are not significantly related to blood pressure and body mass index is significantly associated with blood pressure.
