Abstract

Crisis is a negative phenomenon that can be happen in every companies or organization, everytime and everywhere. The crisis has potential to be highlighted by the mass media. On the other side, the mass media can make public perseptions according to their wishes. Therefore, the company must understand how the mass media work. So, to maintain its reputation, the company must response quickly everything by using mass media. This research tries to discern how the crisis response strategy that is used by PT. Rayon Utama Makmur (RUM) to be up against their crisis in Solopos Newspaper. The causal factor of the PT RUM crisis is come from bad smell industrial cesspool in some village in Nguter Sukoharjo. The research use descriptive quantitative analysis with content validity test and coder reliability that find 24 fact article about crisis response strategy of industrial cesspool news of PT RUM in Solopos Newspaper during October 2017-April 2018. Based on Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT), the crisis response categorized in highly is Justification in Solopos mass media. It is about 75%. This condition give some explanation about the efforts of PT. RUM make the bad smell industrial cesspool disappear. Although, the Justification category in Solopos Newspaper are much dominated. The researcher found an Apology category of 8,3%.
