Abstract

Melikan village is a pottery-producing village. Pottery is a tool made of clay which is formed in such a way that it can be used as useful tools for daily needs. In Melikan Village there are many earthenware crafts. The number of pottery businesses in Melikan Village has increased from year to year. But many earthenware craftsmen still cannot meet consumer demand or are too late in fulfilling consumer demand. This study aims to determine the obstacles faced by pottery craftsmen and analyze the survival strategies of pottery businesses in Melikan Village, Wedi District, Klaten Regency. This research method uses surveys, using Stratified Random Sampling. Sampling using the Stratified Random Sampling is used to reduce the influence of heterogeneous factors and to divide the elements of the population into strata. Furthermore, from each strata selected randomly according to the proportions of the sample. The results of the study in the form of constraints and strategies carried out in the business namely capital development, legalizing Perhutani government-owned raw materials & mixing raw materials, optimizing skilled human resources, developing production equipment , and building organizations.
