Abstract

This study aims to determine the fear of failure level based on gender differences in the activist students of Surakarta Muhammadiyah University. The hypothesis proposed is that there are differences fear of failure level between male and female student activists. The sampling technique used in this study was using quota sampling techniques with 100 participants which is 50 female activist students and 50 male activist students. The method of data collection uses a quantitative approach with a scale of fear of failure and shared online through broadcast messages to several activist group chats. While the data analysis was carried out by non-parametic Mann-Whitney Test analysis. Based on the results of data analysis obtained by Z of -5.695; Sig. (2tailed) of 0.000 (p <0.01) which means there are significant differences in the fear of failure level between male and female activist students. The fear of failure variable has an empirical mean (ME) of 101.00 and hipotetical mean (MH) of 97.5 means the fear of failure level in activist students has a classified category as moderate. The difference from the mean rank of the fear of failure level in male activist students is 33.99 while the mean rank of the fear of failure level in female activist students is 67.01 which means that female activist students have a higher fear of failure level than male activist students.
