Abstract
The objective of the research is to investigate the mechanical properties of HDPE composite. The composite developed from HDPE plastic as matrix material and cornstarch filler in 10% and 15% concentration. The soaking treatment was carried out for the material during 30 days. Specimens manufacture was referred to ISO 294 standard by using injection molding machine of Meiki M-70B. The clamping force was 70 Tons maximum that is operated in 200℃ of barrel temperature, injection pressure 12 MPa, holding pressure 9 MPa and cycle time 41 seconds. The tensile test was conducted based on the ISO 527-1a standard. The result shows that the highest tensile test was 70,603 MPa from HDPE with 10% filler of cornstarch without soaking treatment. While the lower tensile test was 63,449 MPa from HDPE with 15% filler of cornstarch and water soaking treatment for 30 days. For the specimen with 10% filler and soaking treatment, the tensile test was 70,887 %. The lowest tensile test was 58,203 % from specimen with 15% filler. The highest elasticity modulus was 110,028 MPa from specimen with 15% filler and the lowest was 98,788 MPa from specimen with 10% filler and soaking treatment. Filler material of cornstarch in HDPE was influenced the material properties of brittleness. Keyword : hdpe, cornstarch,tensile test, injection molding
