Abstract

Soil is a supporting part of a building consisting of aggregates (granules) of solid minerals that are not bound to one another and decayed organic materials accompanied by liquid and gas that fill the empty space between these particles. Soil has various types, one of which is clay. Clay is a type of soil that is cohesive, plastic, and has a low carrying capacity, so it is not good for building construction such as land in the Bayat area of Klaten. There are ways the soil of stabilize, one of which is stabilization by adding wood charcoal powder and gypsum as stabilization material. The purpose of this study was to determine changes in the physical properties of soil, the value of supporting strength, and soil of the value development after stabilization with wood charcoal powder and gypsum. This research method is in the form of a series of tests of soil physical properties including test of moisture content, specific gravity, Atterberg boundaries, and soil granular size analysis and soil mechanical properties testing in the form of standard Proctor and CBR testing. Based on the testing of the physical properties of the original soil the water content was 6.14%, specific gravity 2.69, liquid limit 69.17%, PL 33.52%, shrinkage limit 12.85%, and plasticity index 35.65%. Based on the AASHTO native land is classified as group A-7-5 while based on USCS native land belongs to the CH group, which is clay which has high plasticity. Testing the results of physical properties of clay stabilized with 5% gypsum with variations of wood charcoal powder 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10% showed that the moisture content, Gs, LL, and percentage value passed the No filter. . 200 has decreased, while the PL and SL values have increased. Classification of AASHTO mixed soil belongs to group A-7-5 while according to USCS mixed soil is classified as MH group, namely inorganic silt soil which has high plasticity. 5% mixed gypsum soil with a variation of 10% wood charcoal powder has the largest dry volume weight, the smallest optimum water content is found in 5% gypsum xviii mixture with a 10% variation of wood charcoal powder with a value of 1.52 gr / cm3. The highest immersion CBR value was obtained by adding 5% gypsum and 10% variation of wood charcoal powder with a CBR value of 7% and the highest CBR value without immersion was obtained by adding 5% gypsum and 10% wood charcoal powder variation with a CBR value of 30%. The lowest development value is obtained by adding 5% gypsum with a variation of 10% wood charcoal powder which is equal to 0.618%.
