Abstract

Yogyakarta City Government’s program called “Segosegawe” suggest people to use bicycle to workplace and school. However, that program isn’t implemented correctly because most of people are not attracted on cycling. The objectives of this study include 1) knowing the side barriers around the road along the bicycle path in Umbulharjo Subdistrict, 2) knowing the level of vegetation cover along the bicycle path in Umbulharjo Subdistrict, and 3) analyzing the level of comfort of bicycle lanes on some roads in Umbulharjo District. The method which are used on this research consist of field surveying and parameter scoring. The roadside barriers are obtained by the evaluation of some types of land use on the selected observing area. Classes of vegetation cover were collected by giving score according to vegetation cover class calculation (low, medium and high). The comfort levels of bicycle lane are accuired according to tiered methods by using six parameters, specifically roadside barriers, vegetation cover, the presence of bicycle lane markers, traffic volume, slope, and drainage channels. The roadside barriers map of Umbulharjo Sub-bdistrict shows that most of side barriers are distributed on Kusumanegara Street and Menteri Supeno Street, while Batikan Street has less side barriers. Map of vegetation cover level shows that high vegetation cover areas are distributed on on Batikan Street, Lowanu street, Gondosuli Street, and Kenari street. However, low vegetation cover areas are distributed on Sukonandi Street. As stated by the six parameters that are used on this research, the analysis results of comfort level of the bicycle lane in Umbulharjo Sub-District consist of three classes namely comfortable, quite comfortable, and uncomfortable. Comfortable class of bicycle lanes are on Batikan Street and Pramuka Street, while in some part of Kusumanegara Street are classified as uncomfortable lane.
