Abstract

Diabetes mellitus that cannot be done well on the sufferer, the awareness needed by independent management for DM patients is in terms of education and medical nutrition therapy Medical nutrition therapy is by using the 3J pattern (Amount, Type, and Schedule. Based on the preliminary survey, 2015 Patients who received diabetes in the work area of Purwosari Community Health Center were prevalence of 1.6% and increased in 2016 which was 2.4%. This study aims to determine the relationship between nutritional knowledge and diet in diabetes mellitus patients in the purwosari health center in Surakarta. This research is an observational research with cross sectional approach. The data collected is the level of knowledge and diet patterns of DM patients. The level of knowledge was measured using a questionnaire about nutritional knowledge for people with diabetes mellitus, while diet was measured using a recall form for 3 days not 2 sequent. The results showed that 45,5% had a good level of knowledge, 54,5% had poor knowledge. Respondents who followed the 3J recommendation based on the number of meals were 24,2% of respondents, type of food 39,4% of respondents, meal schedule 48.5% of respondents, and according to the overall recommendation of 3J, which was 48.5%. Test the relationship of the level of knowledge with diet shows that there is no relationship with p value 0,337. There is no relationship between the level of nutritional knowledge and diet in diabetes mellitus patients in the working area of Purwosari health center, Surakarta city.
