Abstract

Technological developments in the field of building construction machinery and industries that are increasingly advanced cannot be separated from the use of welding. Welding GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) or commonly referred to as TIG welding is welding using an electric arc produced from electrodes that do not participate in melting made of tungsten. Aluminum is a material that can not be separated from the field of machine manufacturing and construction of buildings, while brass and copper are the 2 main ingredients that are often used as construction machinery and industrial materials. This study aims to determine the mechanical properties of GTAW welding on aluminum, brass and copper joints. Tests carried out are chemical composition testing, tensile testing and metallographic testing. From the test results show that Aluminum material contains composition (Al), (Zn), (Cr), brass material containing composition (Cu), (Zn), (Al), and for copper containing composition (Cu). (Sn), and (Zn). The optimum strength of the welded joint occurs in Brass material with an average value of 254.9923 MPa which occurs in the base metal due to the weld metal cross-sectional area is greater than the base metal. While the results of metallographic testing (micro photo) changes in the microstructure in the weld section, for the HAZ area and base metal areas there is no significant change in microstructure.
