Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand and describe the relationship of mother and her son-or-daughter in-law who live at home. Informant research amounted to 8 people consisting of 4 pairs of mother and son-or-daughter in-law who obtained through snowball sampling technique with the age of relationship between mother and her son-daughter in law under five years. Data collection using semi-structured interviews. In this case, the role of the couple as mediator communication is very helpful in the process of deepening information for both parties. Another thing to note is the form of cooperation between mother and her son-ordaughter in-law where the two conduct joint activities to create quality time between mother-in-law and son-daughter-in-law. Then another form of cooperation is the involvement of the son-or-daughter-in-law in household duties and contributions in household expenditures. Conflict between mother and her son-daughter in-law is not uncommon, the cause is more to disagree about parenting and household chores. Conflict management every pair of mother and her son-or-daughter in-law varies but for mild conflicts mother and her son-or-daughter in-law such as differences in desires are still acceptable by both and can be solved by mutual understanding and communicating between mother and her son-or-daughter in-law.
