Abstract

The edible straw mushroom (Volvariella volvacea) is a low calorie food type mushroom which is fatless and sodiumless. The edible straw mushroom contains anti oxidants such as phenol, ascorbic acid, and β-carotene which are used for cancer prevention, and have huge benefits for immune system, thyroid system, and men's reproductional system. Dried banana leaves and coconut fiber are kinds of organic waste that could be used as alternative media for increasing edible straw mushroom productivity. The research was aimed to know the productivity of edible straw mushroom planted in the mixed media of dried banana leaves and coconut fiber. This is an experimental research through complete random design method with factorial pattern which is “concentration of mixed media” as its sole factor. The concentration of mixed media used are as follows: dried banana leaves and coconut fiber with 100% + 0% (K0), 75% + 25% (K1), 50% + 50% (K2), 25% + 75% (K3), 0% + 100% (K4) respectively with four repetition for each of those. Based on conducted analysis data, it could be concluded that the mixed media of dried banana leaves with coconut fiber has no significant effect on edible straw mushroom productivity that was planted inside bucket.
