Abstract

This study has two purposes. (1) To explaining the reason for the emergence of synonymy cohesion in the Kompas newspaper of opinion rubric on April 2018 edition. (2) To describe the form of synonymous cohesion in Kompas newspaper of opinion rubric on April 2018 edition. This research uses qualitative research type. The data in this study is synonymous cohesion in the text or discourse of opinion rubric on April 2018 edition. While the data source used in this research is Kompas daily newspaper. The results of this research show that the emergence of synonymy cohesion can be divided into six types, they are : synonyms appear between original words and absorption words 13, synonyms arise between common languages and dialects 3, synonyms appear to distinguish common words with scientific words 7, synonyms arise between the parent-language infantile and adult language 2, synonyms arise for confidentiality 1, and synonyms arise because of collocation 1. The results of this research show that the lingual form of synonyms can be divided into five types, they are : synonyms between morphemes (free) with morphemes (bound), words with words, words with phrases or otherwise, phrases with phrases, clauses / sentences with clauses / sentences . The results of data analysis in this study found 3 synonyms between morphemes (free) with morphemes (bound), 27 synonyms of words with words, 5 synonyms of words with phrases or otherwise, 7 synonyms of phrases with phrases, 2 synonyms clauses / sentences with clauses / sentences.
