Abstract

Tuberculosis pulmonary can lead to various metabolic disorders and system disturbances in the body, one of which is synthetic disorder of Hemoglobin levels. Some nutrients which can influence the synthetic of Hemoglobin levels are iron (Fe) and folic acid. Patients with often have low intake of Fe and folic acid. They also experience in spite of low intake of Fe and folic acid, patients with pulmonary tuberculosis usually experience disturbances of Fe synthesis result to a low level of Hemoglobin in the blood. To determine the association of iron and folic acid intake to the Hemoglobin levels among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in BBKPM of Surakarta. Thesis an observational study with cross-sectional approach. A total of 40 patients, were recruited consecutive sampling. The data of iron and folic acid intake were obtained through interviews using 3 months semi-quantitative FFQ (Food Frequency) questionnaire. Data of Hemoglobin levels obtained using hematology analyzer methods. The data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment association test. A total of 33 patients (82.5%) had low levels of Hemoglobin below the normal values. Most patients had iron and folic acid intake below daily requirement of 30 patients (75%) and 36 patients (90%). Based on statistical analysis showed that no association between iron intake with Hemoglobin levels was found with p-value of 0,823 and there was no association between folic acid intake with Hemoglobin levels with p-value of 0,64. And There is no association of iron and folic acid intake to Hemoglobin levels.
