Abstract
The aims of the research are (1) to know the learning using contextual learning model with word media can achieve mastery on the aspect of reading skill of the first grade students of SDN Sondakan, (2) to know the reading ability of the students taught using contextual learning model with the card media words are better than students studyt using lecture methods based on textbooks. Type of this research is quasi experiment (eksperimen semu). The design used is Nonequivalent Control Group Design. This population of this research is all students of class I SDN Sondakan 2017/2018 with the number of sample 76 students. Technique of collecting data using observation method,interview, test, documentation. The technique of data analysis using the Z test formula. The results showed that(1) there is influence of using contextual learning model with word card whichcan reach completeness on first reading skill aspect of student of class I SDN Sondakan with Z_(count )= 5, 047 for cognitive abillity, and Z_count= 1,71 for skill, (2) there is a differences to the reading ability of the students beginning with using contextual learning model with word card media better than the students taught by using conventional learning model with Z_count = 8,12 for cognitive ability and Z_count= 5,178 for skillability.
