Abstract
This study aims to describe the role of the principal in the development of paedagogic competencies for teachers of Pancasila and Citizenship Education at Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta Middle School in the academic year 2017/2018. Data sources in this study are classified into 3 types, namely informants (informants), places (events), and documents. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews and documentation with interactive model analysis. Interactive model analysis techniques are used to compare observations, interviews and documentation. The validity of the data uses triangulation of data collection sources and triangulation of data collection techniques. The results of this study indicate that the role of the principal in the development of paedagogic competencies of the Pancasila and Citizenship Education teachers has been carried out by the principal with the help of the deputy headmaster and all the education staff in the school. The school principal involved the teacher in the Training of Trailer activities before the new school year began as a form of developing the ability to manage. learning in the teacher. The principal gives encouragement to the teachers to use learning approaches or methods that can be implemented in accordance with the conditions of students as a form of developing the ability to understand students. The school principal provides guidance through workshop activities as a form of developing learning planning for the teacher. The school principal monitors through the classroom supervision program as a form of developing the implementation of educational and dialogical learning for the teacher. The principal held an IT-based learning training (Information Tecnology) as a form of developing the use of learning technology in the teacher. The principal makes an appraisal together with the deputy headmaster of the curriculum field as a form of development of the evaluation of student learning outcomes to the teacher. The principal provides guidance to read the Qur'an as a form of development of students to the teacher.
