Abstract
ergh. The study is to reveal how women’s independence is reflected in Erin Brockovich directed by Steven Soderbergh published in 2000. The objective of the study is to analyze the structural elements in the movie and to analyze women’s independence of the movie based on feminist approach. The researcher employs the descriptive qualitative research as a type of the research. The data sources are divided into two, namely primary data source and secondary data source. The primary data source is the movie and script of Erin Brockovich and the secondary data source is information related to the primary data source, website, and book about feminist approach. The method of collecting data is observation and library review. The method of analyzing data is descriptive technique. Based on the analysis, the researcher draws two conclusions: first, based on the structural analysis, Steven Soderbergh wants to deliver a moral message that women can even have better achievement than men and the existence of inferior situation particularly oppression against women through thriller drama story. Second, based on the feminist analysis, Erin Brockovich represents life society of the late twentieth century of the existence of independent women.
