Abstract

Breast cancer is one cause of death in the world in women, including Indonesia. Ocimum sanctum L. and Alpinia galanga are plants that have the potential to be used as an alternative to cancer treatment. The Ocimum sanctum L. contains ursolic acid and Alpinia galanga containing the compound 1'-Acetoxycavikol acetate having cytotoxic activity. This study was conducted to determine the cytotoxic activity of botanical ethanol extract combination Ocimum sanctum L. and Alpinia galanga against MCF-7 cancer cells.The Ocimum sanctum and Alpinia galanga a were extracted by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. A cytotoxic test with a single extract and a combination of comparisons (1: 1) prepared a series of concentrations of 500; 250: 125; 62.5; 31,25 μg / mL and cytotoxic activity was tested using MTT assay methodThe result of cytotoxic test showed that basil ethanol extract, galangal and combination of extract had cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 cells with IC50 respectively> 1000; 55.6; 123.9 μg / mL
