Abstract
This research is aimed to analyze fisical and mechanical characteristics of alumunium in the foundry process. In this process, the reseacher used some mold variation. There are metal mold, sand Co mold and sand mold. This study used alumunium material or junk material as an object of the research. In this case, these materials were remelted in the induction comport. On the other hand, this research showed an influences of mold variation toward porosity, hardness level, chemical composition and micro structure of material. The data analysis showed there are 17 chemical elements composition. Nevertheless, there is only 4 elements which dominant with foundry alumunium, there are (Zn) : 0,60%, (Fe) : 0,38%, (Cu) 0,16% and(Si) 0,180%. Based on the elements of material, it could be concluded that the material was classified as a zinc fusion of alumunium metal (AL-Zn). Whereas, based on the micro structure experiment, it could be seen that metal mold has a small and close grain diameter, so that, metal mold is more brittle than river sand and Co2 sand. Both of them have a big grain diameter than metal mold. So, they have low hardness level. From the portable hardness brinel experiment of the foundry material construction which is related with the hardness, there are 21,23 BHN of river sand mold, 21,23 BHN of sand mold and 333,17 BHN of metal mold.
