Abstract
This study aims to describe the implementation, constraints, and alternative solutions for the implementation of social competence of teachers of Civic Education in improving students’ learning motivation in SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta. This study uses a qualitative approach, data collection with triangulation of sources and techniques. Data analysis applies flow model through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results shows that the implementation of the social competence of teacher of Civic Education in improving students' learning motivation in SMP Muhammdiyah 4 Surakarta is strongly influenced by Objective and non discriminatory action, Effectively, empathic, and courteous communication, Adopt on duty throughout the territory of the Republic of Indonesia, the existence of desire to succeed, Encouragement and learning needs, hope or future aspirations, appreciation in learning, interesting activities in learning, a conducive learning environment, so that enables a student to learn well. The problem in implementating the social competence of teacher of Civic Education in SMP Muhammdiyah 4 Surakarta is the parents who pay less attention to their children in helping and motivating their study, as well as the habit of lazy reading material or textbooks that have been provided. An alternative solution to solve the problem in implementating the social competence of teacher of Civic Education in SMP Muhammdiyah 4 Surakarta is cooperation between teachers and parents in managing students’ learning and the use of learning methods that can build students’ motivation to avoid boredom and saturation.
