Abstract
Migration is one way out for the person to improve the quality of self as well as the decision of many students who want to continue their study at the best university. In the first year, overseas students are often encounter diverse problems. Of the problems experienced, of course, each new student has their own way to solve the problem. The purpose of this research is to understand the picture of the life of overseas first year students coming from outside Java island, knowing the problems experienced, and coping strategies used in overcoming problems during migration. The research method used is Qualitative Phenomenology whose data collected through interviews to 6 subjects, these subjects were selected using purposive sampling technique with new student criterion force of 2017, coming from outside Java Island and female sex. The results of the study show some reasons why students choose to migrate to train independence and the quality of the island of Java is adequate. Migration life is characterized by problems such as homesickness, difficulty in managing finances, difficulty communicating, getting low grades, closing themselves to new environments. Coping strategies used there are two forms of Emotion Focus Coping and Problem Focused Coping. From this research can be concluded that coping strategy used by individual of female gender not only focus on emotion but also balance that is also able to focus on problem directly.
