Abstract

The object of this research is the film entitled Brave Heart by Mel Gibson. The major problem of this study is how the struggle of William Wallace for independence in Brave Heart film based on Marxist Approach. Besides, the objectives of the study are to analyze the structural elements of the film. In conducting this study, the researcher uses qualitative research in which the data are based on primary data, the script of Brave Heart film. While secondary data are reviews of the film which are collected from various sources and other data which deal with the research, such as, from the website, journal and other referenced that has connection with the research. In analyzing the data, she applies two approaches; they are structural approach and Marxist approach. Structural approach is used to analyze the elements of the film. It consists of character and characterization, setting, plot, point of view, theme, intent, style, casting, Mise en scene, cinematography, editing and sound. While Marxist approach is used to analyze the coping Struggle for Independence. Based on the analysis, the result of this study describes that the Struggle for Independence is illustrated through the action of the characters in order to survive in conquered nation.
