Abstract

Theater is a building or room where it shows a movie, a play, or it can also be interpreted as staging drama as an art or a profession. Along with the times, number of art connoisseurs is increasing. This makes many art connoisseurs need a place to enjoy and performing art. Cultural Theater in Surakarta is a building for traditional / modern musical as well as drama performance. This building uses a design approach that concern to acoustic space and neovernakuler. The purpose of this approach is to maintain the local cultural values are packed with a new form and emphasize the acoustics of space in order to create comfort in the theater but does not remove elements of tradition and culture that exist both in terms of form and utilization. This theater has 2 types of theater room which is big theater with capacity of 1000 audiences and small theater room with capacity of 800 audiences
