Abstract

Biomass energy is an alternative energy source that needs to get priority in its development because Indonesia has abundant natural resources which produce a lot of natural waste that has not been utilized optimally. The natural waste included an agricultural and forestry waste such as rice husk and wood powder. One of the way to process it, is through gasification process. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of particle size and air velocity on the performance of Top Lit Up-Draft gasification stove. The fuel used is a mixture of rice husk and wood powder by comparison 1:1 with variations of air velocity 8 m/s, 10 m/s, 12 m/s and the particle size variations of fuel 20 mesh and 30 mesh. Water boiling test showed that the fastest time to boil water in the first pot using a 12 m/s air velocity variation on particle size of mesh 20. As for the second pot, the fastest boiling time of water is at a variation of air velocity of 12 m/s with a particle size of mesh 30. While the particle size variation of fuel and air velocity is best for gasification process are mesh 30 with air velocity 12 m/s.
