Abstract

Background: The Diaphragmatic Release Technique is a direct-intentioned intervention to stretch diaphragmatic muscle fibers. Diaphragmatic muscle shortening and stiffness due to spasm in COPD patients results in a decrease in thoracic cage mobility. Objective: To know the effect of Diaphragmatic Release Technique on Thoracic Mobility in Obstructive Lung Disease (COPD) patients Balai Besar Kesehatan Paru Masyarakat of Surakarta. Method: This research uses quasi experiment method, using one group pre and post test design approach. The subjects measured their thoracic mobility before treatment then measured again after giving Diaphragmatic Release Technique. The pretest and postest measurements use the meterline. Normality test using Shapiro Wilk test, homogeneity test using Levene's test, the influence test using paired T-Test. Research Results: Based on the results of treatment conducted by researchers, it was found that the Diaphragmatic Release Technique influenced the mobility of thoracic cage in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in BBKPM of Surakarta. The statistical test of the influence of Diaphragmatic Release Technique on thoracic cage mobility using paired T-Test obtained mean ± SD value before treatment 2.28 ± 0.61 and mean ± SD after treatment is 3.57 ± 0.67 with p- value = 0,000 (<0.05). Conclusion: From the results of the research, it can be concluded that there is an effect of giving Diaphragmatic Release Technique to thoracic cage mobility in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Balai Besar Kesehatan Paru Masyarakat of Surakarta.
