Abstract

Non-organic clay soil with high plasticity is a deficient soil. This type of soil require a method of soil improvement before the construction process can begin. One of the method for soil improvement is using vertical drain with the aim of accelerating the rate of consolidation of an area so that development can be implemented as soon as possible. This research is related to the soil improvement method which vertical drain is expected to strengthen the footing foundation that will be built in the area. In practice, this study will test two sample variations consisting of a test using brick powder over waste concrete reinforcing column and without brick powder over waste concrete reinforcing column. The other variations are on the diameter of the reinforcing column and the diameter of the footing foundation that using 100 mm and 150 mm. The loading test is carried out using a loading test machine which samples have been prepared on a homogeneous clay soil by equating the moisture content and the compaction method. Based on this research can be concluded about the settlement and the maximum load that occurs. The settlement of the area that closer to the point of loading will be greater and otherwise. The bigger diameters of footing foundation the maximum load value will be greater with load percentage increase of 112%. The bigger of reinforcing column maximum load value will also be greater with load percentage increase of 75%. The next conclusion, by increasing the diameter of the footing foundation will be more effective at increasing the maximum load rather than increasing the diameter of the reinforcing column.
