Abstract
This study aims to describe the implementation, forms of planting, constraints, and alternative solutions of disciplined and independent character planting through extracurricular activities Hizbul Wathan on students of class VII in SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta. This research uses qualitative approach, data collection with source triangulation and technique. Technique of collecting data is done by observatio, interview, and documentation. Test the validity of the data applies flow model through collective data, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the inculcation of self-discipline and independent characters through the extracurricular activities of Hizbul Wathan in the seventh grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta was strongly influenced by the presence of children at school (presensi), the timeliness of class or children's school, wearing uniforms with complete and neat, discipline in school discipline, the desire or desire to learn, be able to take decisions and initiatives to deal with problems, responsibility for what he does, and confident and carry out tasks independently. The constraint of planting the character of discipline and independence through the extracurricular activities of Hizbul Wathan in the seventh grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta is that many students whose character of discipline and independet low, because of lack of awareness of each individual because they come from families of different background. The incidence of boredom from children while attending these activities. An alternative solution to overcome obstacles in planting the character of discipline and independence through the extracurricular activities of Hizbul Wathan in the seventh grade students in SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta is in the form of assessment, assertiveness, and punishment to learners in the form of memorizing verses of the Qur'an so that they do not commit violation and obedience to the rules, and students are given an interesting game
