Abstract

This study aims to determine the tensile strength, hardness in the aluminum connection with steel using friction stir welding method. Materials used st37 steel and aluminum. The welding process uses a conventional engine with a rotation that uses 800 rpm and 1250 rpm, feed rate 10 mm / min, 1 ° inclination angle and 1.8 mm plunge depth. For tensile tests using the ASTM E8M standard, for testing use the ASTM E384 standard. From the experimental test of the Al - Fe 800 rpm connection, the average was 82.22 MPa and the strain averaged 1.09%, while the Al - Fe 1250 rpm had an average of 96.23 MPa and an average strain of 1 , 14%. For base metal at Al - Fe connection of 800 rpm of material. 16%. For base metal at Al - Fe 1250 rpm the average material has an average of 303.36 Mpa and an average strain of 9.46%, whereas the average Flow material is 143.04 Mpa and an average strain of 1, 08%. From the results of testing the hardness of Al-Fe 800 rpm connection in zone stir area showed 42.2 HVN value and HAZ area showed 56,5 HVN value, while at Al-Fe 1250 rpm at zone stir area showed 161,7 HVN and HAZ area shows a value of 165.5 HVN. For base metal at Al-Fe 800 rpm the Fe material showed 117.1 HVN and Al material showed 47.3 HVN value, while for base metal connection at Al-Fe 1250 rpm Fe material showed 137.4 HVN value and material Al shows a value of 37.6 HVN.
