Abstract

In this era, it is easy to find the women wearing the veil. The women wearing the veil can be found in public places and on campuses, especially Islamic campus. In often, societies have social prejudices about women that wear veil women. Social prejudice is a judgment about negative things from individuals or groups to other individuals or groups. It can be obstructed by the development of individuals or groups that are subject to prejudice. The purpose of this research is to understand and to describe social prejudices of the academic community to women wear the veil in Islamic campus, In this research, involves 10 informants selected by using purposive sampling technique that is based on criteria that have been determined by the researcher. The informants are the civitas academic of Islamic Campus, the lecturers, staff, students, and female students. This research uses qualitative methods and the data collection methods use interviews and observations. In this analyze research uses descriptive, The results of this research, social prejudice factors are the last level of education, social status, and gender. Informants whose S2 did not has the prejudice about women wear the veil from the first meeting, while S1 and SMA have social prejudices about women wear the veil. Furthermore, lecturers did have not social prejudice about women wear the veil. Moreover, other informants are staffs, students, coeds and friends have social prejudices about women wear the veil. Men and women have the same social prejudice when meeting women wear the veil. The social prejudices that existed at the beginning of meeting a veiled woman, that is, to assume that a woman was veiled from a particular stream, fearful, and observe her continuously afterwards. In often, the civitas academic meet women wear the veil, so social prejudice is reduced.
