Abstract

Indonesia is an agrarian country where most of its inhabitants work as farmers. One of the agricultural products is rice which is the staple food of the Indonesian population. The agricultural sector is a sector that plays an important role in the Indonesian economy. So this research is conducted to see the factors that influence the import of Indonesian rice by using variables of rice production, population, GDP and foreign exchange reserves. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of partial or simultaneous, and to analyze the variables that affect the import of rice in Indonesia in 1980-2016. The data used in this study is secondary data in the form of annual data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Word Bank, and the Ministry of Agriculture. This research method using regression analysis with Ordinary Least square (OLS). Results of multiple linear regression analysis (OLS) showed that rice production had a negative and significant influence on rice imports in Indonesia during the period 1980-2016, the population 2 has a negative and insignificant effect, The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has a positive and insignificant effect, while foreign exchange reserves have a positive and significant influence on rice imports in Indonesia.
