Abstract
This research was conducted to improve the function of HDPE type plastic waste which is generally only used as recycled material in this research the waste will be converted into engineering material, it needs to be researched and developed as a composite material in accordance with its physical and mechanical properties, new composite materials. This research discusses the composite of cement and plastic HDPE where the method of making using manual method is by mixing the plastic plaster HDPE dimesh 10 with cement and heated into the oven. The variables and parameters used in this reserch are variables of this that is varying the ratio of HDPE and cement plastic mixture with 90% volume fraction: 10%, 80%: 20%, 70%: 30%, 60%: 40%. Tests in this it’s include compressive strength test and water absorption test. Specimens of composite material yield after disintering there are differences in the color change of each variation of the fractional mixture. In this research, the minimum compressive strength obtained by composite specimen with variation of volume fraction ratio 60%: 40%, that is equal to 16,856 N / mm2. Furthermore, followed by composite specimens with variation of volume fraction ratio of 70%: 30%, amounted to 19.662 N / mm2, volume fraction of 80%: 20% of 21,535 N / mm2 and the largest compressive strength obtained on composite variation of volume fraction ratio 90%: 10% , amounted to 25.060 N / mm2. The largest water absorption variation is 60%: 40% volume fraction ratio of 6.413%, volume fraction 70%: 30% with water absorption 5,569%, volume fraction ratio 80%: 20% 5,360%, and smallest volume fraction 90%: 10% that is equal to 0,681%. Comparison of volume fraction can affect value of compressive strength and water absorption on composite material.
