Abstract
SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta which is located at Jl. Raden Mas Said no. 35, Ketelan, Banjarsari, Kota Surakarta, Provonsi Central Java. The strategies used in classroom learning are very influential on learning outcomes. In this research use Snowball Throwing strategy to test how much level of teaching material effectiveness and difference of learning result. Because the active strategy will stimulate students to quickly accept the knowledge that is appropriate to the learning tujan. research uses two classes as a population that is class XII IPS 2 and XII IPS 3. Both classes also become experimental class at once. Determination of the class seen from the average grade of students in the mid-semester test, class XI IPS 2 using Geographic Science Books Books while class XI IPS 3 using Student Book Geography, the two classes using snowball throwing strategy with the same treatment. Instrument testing techniques using validity test, reliability test. The retrieval of assessed data is the level of students' knowledge with pretest and posttest calculations. Data analysis techniques using normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis test all use SPSS 21 software assistance. The data obtained showed that in Book Review Geography experience increased learning 10.53% while Student Book up 14.75%. So it can be concluded that the average value of class XI IPS 3 is bigger than class XI IPS 2, then class XI IPS 3 shows a bigger increase value than class XI IPS 2.
