Abstract

Dunia Terbalik is a comedy family show that is featuring different domestic life. In the life of society, generally still many people embrace patriarchy system where the position of men is higher than women. But on the contrary, in this show there is improvement of men gender roles under women. This research is intended to find out how audiences interpret the shift of gender roles caused by different social life backgrounds. This research method is using qualitative descriptive approach with data technique using data compound with six people as sample who live in Pemalang. Criteria of informants are: A. husband and wife who both of them are working, B. husband who does not work and working wife, and C. Working husband and wife who does not work. The results of this study indicate that the socioeconomic status status of the informant provide different meanings in the construction of messages made by family members. Informants A1 and A2, B1 and B2 indicate that the current gender role is dynamic, interchangeable. Couples A and B choose to negotiate the gender roles that occur in their home life. In contrast to various informants C who chose to reject the codes displayed in the sitcom Dunia Terbalik.
