Abstract

Background : Children with CP may encounter several neurological deficits because of developing brain lesions. Data obtained from the cohort study showed spastic CP with the highest percentage (86.5%). Quadriplegic spastic cerebral palsy is characterized by CP, decreased upper extremity and lower extremity control. Decreased limb control due to damage to the motor center will cause disruption of normal motion functions such as the movement of lifting the head, sitting, standing, and walking. Based on these problems, physiotherapy as a health worker has a role in handling children with cerebral palsy by improving the function of the limbs so that children can grow and develop well. Therefore, this study uses kinesio taping to increase the range of motion, muscle strength, facilitation, and inhibition so that children with CP can lift his head upright for a long time. Objective : To find out the influence of kinesio taping on the ability to lift the head in children with quadriplegic spastic cerebral palsy. Method : The research is a quasi experimental study with one group pre and post design. Seven children with quadriplegic spastic cerebral palsy were treated by using a stopwatch for 4 weeks. Results : The result of statistical test using Paired Sample T-Test obtained p value is p <0,05 (p = 0,000) and got t-value = -18,277 and t table = 2,5705 then t-value > t-table. So there is a significant influence on the ability to raise the head of CP children before and after given kinesio taping. Conclusion : The results showed that there is a kinesio taping effect on the ability to lift the head in children with quadriplegic spastic cerebral palsy.
