Abstract
Hypertension is one of the major factors causing stroke, heart disease, kidney disease, and complications associated with decreasing life expectancy. Meanwhile, in the geriatrics, there is a decrease in some organ function therefore appropriate drug prescribing can determine the success of the therapy and reduce the number of mortality and morbidity. The purpose of this study was to know the description and accuracy of antihypertensive drug use in geriatric patients who were diagnosed with hypertension in Dr. Moewardi Surakarta in 2016. Rationality of therapy evaluation performed in this study includes appropriate indication, appropriate patient, appropriate drug, and appropriate dose. Type and design of this study was observational study with retrospective data retrieval and descriptive data analysis. Sampling was done by using purposive sampling method and 61 data which were taken as sample were analyzed based on therapy standard used, which were Pharmacotherapy a Pathophysiology Approach Seventh Edition, Evidence-Based Guideline for the Management of High Blood Pressure in Adults Report From the Panel Members Appointed to the Eighth Joint National Committee (JNC 8), and Geriatric Dosage Handbook 16th Edition. Based on the research result from the analysis of rationality of therapy of antihypertensive drug usage in geriatric patient, the result obtained was that 100% with an appropriate indication, 100% with an appropriate patient, 95,8% with an appropriate drug, and 96,55% with an appropriate dose. The most commonly used antihypertensive drug was amlodipine, which accounts for 32,78% and the most widely used combination antihypertensive drug was amlodipine with candesartan, which accounts for 19,67%.
