Abstract
Sunlight exposure contains UV radiation that can cause photoaging and damage to skin tissues such as, sunburn, erythema, and skin cancer. Nanoparticles of zinc oxide have physical sunscreen activity by reflecting and scattering UV radiation. This study aims to determine the optimum formula of zinc oxide nanoparticle sunscreen cream preparations with optimal physical properties and stability and to evaluate sunscreen activity by determining the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) value. The synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles prepared by Sol-Gel method. Characterization of particle size was done using Particle Size Analyzer (PSA). Optimization of sunscreen formulation was carried out using factorial design method with cetyl alcohol and Tween 80 using low and high level in 4 different formulas. Evaluation of physical properties of the cream included organoleptic observation, viscosity, pH, spread ability, adhesive ability, and stability. Evaluation of sunscreen activity was determined by in vitro metho using Spectrophotometer UV. Optimization was done by evaluating the physical properties of cream and SPF values using the Expert Design v.11 (trial) software. The synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles results zinc oxide nanoparticles with particle size 160,000±15,492. The combination of cetyl alcohol and Tween 80 showed have effect for viscosity, spread ability, adhesive ability, stability, and SPF value of sunscreen cream. The results of the analysis obtained the optimum formula sunscreen cream with the content of cetyl alcohol 10% and Tween 80 8,176% (desirability value 0,784). T-test one sample showed no significant difference) evaluation of physical properties of cream preparation and SPF value between optimum formula of sunscreen cream with prediction value.
