Abstract

This research studies the translation of complex sentence in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince into Harry Potter dan Pangen Berdarah Campuran. The objectives of the study are to describe the translation shift complex sentence and to classify the types of equivalence used in translation of complex sentence in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince into Harry Potter and Pangeran Berdarah Campuran. This research is a descriptive qualitative research the objects of the research are complex sentence in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and its Translation Harry Potter dan Pangeran Berdarah Campuran. The data are in the forms English texts consisting of complex sentence and their translation. They are collected from both the books by using documentation method. The results of the data analysis show that there are two shifts of the translation of complex sentence, namely: 1) 52 complex sentences with independent clause and dependent clause is translated into complex sentence with independent clause and dependent clause; and 2) 8 complex sentence with independent clause and 2 dependent clauses is translated into complex sentence with independent clause and 2 dependent clause. Besides, the equivalence of translation is divided into equivalent translation and non equivalent translation. From 60 data, there are 56 data belong equivalence translation and only 4 data non equivalence.
